PROFESSIONAL & CLINICAL
She is one of the members of the team who had operated and treated the patient suffering from Brain Stem Cavernoma and myoclonic epilepsy — claimed as the First in India and Seventh in the World (Indian Express, 11 Dec 2021; The Times of India, 10 Dec 2021). Also part of the team undertaking Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS) surgery to treat Parkinson’s disease (The Times of India, 7 Mar 2025).

EXCEPTIONAL
– G20 National Award: In 2023, the esteemed International Event G20, organized by the Government of India, saw the Indian National Young Academy of Science (INYAS) in New Delhi collaborate with the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) in Hyderabad, under the auspices of the Ministry of Education, Government of India. They conducted a six-month series of essay writing, talks, debates, and discussions across various cities in India, focusing on the Model G20 and its Seven Themes. This initiative reflects India’s dedication to nurturing innovation and excellence among young leaders who are diligently working to tackle global challenges. Shri Amitabh Kant, the G20 Sherpa of India, is the driving force behind this event. Approximately one hundred thousand talented youth registered for the competition, and after two rounds, four thousand participants were selected for the next stage. Ultimately, only 21 candidates advanced to the semifinals, with seven candidates receiving awards, one from each theme. Dr. Sumirini is among the seven G20 Awardees, having won the award for the theme of ‘Sustainable Development.’ According to the RTI-2005 act, she was the top candidate among all seven winners.
All seven winners were recognized at IIT Hyderabad on October 13, 2023, by Shri Amitabh Kant, G20 Sherpa of India (online), Shri Sanjay K. Murthy, IAS, Secretary of Higher Education, Ministry of Education, Government of India, and Prof. B.S. Murty, Director of IIT Hyderabad, in the presence of a large gathering.
